Rise Up for Racial Justice
A Call to Repentance in the Midst of a Racial Justice Uprising
Racism is sin.
It is the sin baked into all facets of American society. From the personal to the communal to the structural, America was built upon and persists in a system of racist sin. In the tradition of the world’s great prophets, we are calling for our nation to repent; to turn away from racism.
We are calling on America
To turn away from the practices of its history that stole land and people to build a nation.
To turn away from the policies that created black codes and Jim Crow laws and the prison industrial complex that have all worked to keep free labor and white supremacy going.
To turn away from the disdain shown by police and regular persons that feel compelled and empowered, when viewing black people living their lives, to question their presence and police their existence.
To turn away from the spirits that, upon finding that black people are still being killed in the street, come forth to ask the question “What did they do to deserve it?”.
We are calling for America to rise up and repent.
Faith in Florida is not only an organization that speaks up for and with the oppressed, specifically the Black and Brown communities across this state and across this nation. We are an organization that takes action. It is our duty to teach justice from our faith traditions. It is our duty to help usher in God’s justice for the world. It is our duty to organize until it comes to pass.
